APC Claims Opposition is Fragmenting Ahead of 2027 Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC), under the leadership of National Chairman Professor Nentaw Yilwatda, stated on Wednesday in Abuja that the opposition is disintegrating. Yilwatda reaffirmed the APC's commitment to internal democracy and an open contest system, which he believes reflects the party's strength.

He downplayed recent defections within the opposition, labeling them inconsequential. The sale of nomination forms for the APC commenced on April 28 and is scheduled to close at midnight on May 6.

This exercise is crucial as Nigeria prepares for presidential and national assembly elections on January 16, 2027, and governorship elections on February 6, 2027. The APC is reportedly experiencing a surge in interest, with many individuals, including those currently in office, purchasing forms to contest various positions.

Yilwatda emphasized that the party is open to competition, allowing even sitting governors and senators to challenge for positions, which he believes demonstrates the party's democratic values.
