Ansaru Commanders Arraigned for Terrorism in Abuja Court

Five suspects linked to the Ansaru terrorist organization were arraigned before Justice Salim Ibrahin of the Federal High Court in Abuja on charges of terrorism and murder. The judge adjourned the case to September 24 for the commencement of trial and ordered that the suspects remain in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

In August 2025, DSS operatives captured two top commanders of the Mahmuda faction, Abubakar Abba Mahmuda Abu Bara’a and Abubakar Abbas, also known as Mallam Mahmuda Al-Nigeri. During the rescue operation of the Oriire captives, the DSS apprehended three additional individuals connected to the terror attack and the Ansaru organization.

Recently, a Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced Mahmud Usman (Abu Bara’a) and his deputy Mahmud al-Nigeri to life imprisonment after they pleaded guilty to charges related to belonging to a terrorist organization among other offenses.
