O'Sullivan Defeats Murphy to Reach World Open Quarters

Ronnie O'Sullivan produced a superb display to beat Shaun Murphy 5-3, advancing to the quarter-finals of the World Open. O'Sullivan started strong with a break of 96 in the first frame, but Murphy quickly responded with a remarkable break of 139 to take the lead.

The seven-time world champion O'Sullivan countered with breaks of 77 and 121 to regain the lead. Although Murphy managed to draw level again, O'Sullivan secured his victory with further breaks of 89 and 76.

The 50-year-old O'Sullivan will face Ryan Day, who defeated Latvia's Artemij Zizin 5-4, in the last eight on Friday. In other matches, Northern Ireland's Mark Allen achieved a quarter-final record with a 5-0 win over Zhou Yuelong from China and will face Wu Yize, also from China, who won 5-2 against the 2024 world champion Kyren Wilson.
