Adeleke Faces Legal Challenges Ahead of Osun Elections

Ademola Adeleke, the current governor of Osun State, is engaged in a legal battle to maintain his position ahead of the upcoming elections scheduled for August 15, 2026. He won the governorship on the PDP platform in 2022.

Recently, the APC, represented by Bola Oyebamiji, has launched serious attacks against Adeleke, including a legal challenge that led to a Federal High Court order for the deregistration of five parties, including the Accord Party. The APC argues that this ruling could remove Adeleke from the ballot.

Adeleke's team is contesting this order and has stated that they will appeal the lower court's decision. Additionally, there are concerns about grassroots support for Adeleke as the Nigerian Labour Congress and other trade unions back an independent party structure at the local government level.

The APC is accused of using intimidation tactics to control the electoral machinery ahead of the elections, and there are ongoing questions regarding the status of the Accord Party, which could impact Adeleke's campaign.
