Osun Closes Lameco Flyover Over Structural Defects

The Osun State Government has temporarily shut down the Lameco Flyover in Osogbo after discovering a structural defect less than a month post-commissioning. During a visit by The PUNCH, one lane was cordoned off, and videos showed visible cracks on the bridge.

This incident has led to a political dispute, with the Accord Party, led by Chairman Victor Akande, alleging sabotage aimed at undermining the achievements of Governor Ademola Adeleke's administration. Akande called for an investigation into the vandalism of public infrastructure.

Conversely, the All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed these claims, asserting that initial findings indicated structural deficiencies, including a deep pothole and other distress points on the flyover. The APC's statement, signed by Media and Publicity Director Remi Omowaiye, emphasized that these issues posed a threat to public safety.

The incident also validated the decision of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, to decline the commissioning invitation due to concerns over the project's integrity.
