Accord Party Member Killed Ahead of Osun Election

A member of the Accord Party was reportedly killed by suspected political thugs in Osun State on Friday at approximately 6:00 a.m., just a day before the governorship election. The incident occurred in the Omi Eran Atijo community, where the victim was chased and ultimately caught by the assailants.

A video circulating online showed the deceased's body in a drainage with a pool of blood. The victim's identity was not disclosed at the time of the report.

This killing has heightened concerns regarding the security situation in Osun, with residents accusing security personnel of failing to prevent such attacks despite prior warnings about potential political violence. A relative of the deceased expressed devastation over the loss, highlighting that the victim was a family man.

The incident coincides with rising political tensions in Osun, where inflammatory statements by politicians have raised fears of violence. Former Chief of Defence Staff Lucky Irabor called for the arrest of individuals making inciting comments, referencing a viral video of Senator Francis Fadahunsi allegedly urging violence against Accord Party members.
