Osun Election Disproves 'Votes Don't Count' Belief

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Lagos State, represented by its Chairman Temilola Akinade, declared that the results of the Osun governorship election have invalidated the belief that votes do not count in Nigeria. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday, Akinade, who is also the Lagos State Chairman of the National Rescue Movement, described the election as a significant advancement for Nigeria's democracy, noting its peaceful, free, and fair nature.

She asserted that the election outcome demonstrated that votes indeed count, countering the prevailing narrative of voter apathy. Akinade emphasized that power belongs to the people and can only be retained through active electoral participation.

She also expressed concern over reported violence and killings leading up to the election and urged citizens to engage in the electoral process, especially with the 2027 general elections approaching.
