Tinubu Urges Free and Fair Elections in Osun State

President Bola Tinubu has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to guarantee a peaceful and transparent election in Osun State, scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026. He warned security agencies to prevent troublemakers from causing chaos during the election.

The election will feature 15 candidates, including the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, All Progressives Congress candidate Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, and African Democratic Congress flagbearer Najeem Salaam. Tinubu encouraged the electorate to fulfill their civic duties and avoid actions that could disrupt the election.

He assured the people of their safety before and after the polls and urged INEC to ensure the election is transparent, free, and fair. He stated that this election should serve as a test case for INEC's preparedness for the 2027 polls and emphasized that electoral officials and voters must be protected to perform their duties without fear.
