Tinubu Defends INEC Ahead of 2027 Elections

On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu defended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in light of concerns regarding its neutrality ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking at the State House in Abuja while receiving the leadership of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), led by President Most Rev. Matthew Ndagoso, Tinubu dismissed allegations from political opponents as unfounded.

He stated that INEC has remained impartial and has not intimidated any political party or candidate. The bishops had urged the president to ensure free, fair, and credible elections, which they consider a legacy of his administration.

Additionally, Tinubu assured the bishops of his government's commitment to enhancing the country's security architecture to combat terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping. He mentioned the expansion of the armed forces and improvements in security personnel welfare.

On economic matters, Tinubu expressed confidence in the recovery from financial challenges and noted the absence of industrial actions by university lecturers, allowing students to complete their programs on time.
