Osun Leaders Urge Police to Combat Electoral Violence

On Wednesday, August 15, 2023, political leaders in Osun State demanded that the Osun State Police Command take tougher measures to address the increasing incidents of electoral violence. The meeting, attended by various party chairmen, including Ibrahim Gotan, the state police commissioner, focused on the need for enhanced security as the state approaches its governorship elections.

Adesoji Adelek, chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, identified two political parties as sponsors of the violence, asserting that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was responsible for the unrest. The police were urged to ensure that all political gatherings are adequately secured and to manage traffic to prevent clashes.

The leaders called for a violence-free campaign environment, warning against any form of thuggery or intimidation that could disrupt public peace. The meeting also included representatives from the Christian Association of Nigeria and other community leaders.
