Massive Security Deployment Ahead of Osun Governorship Election

Ahead of the governorship election in Osun State on Saturday, a substantial deployment of security personnel has been observed in Osogbo, the state capital. The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has assigned Deputy Inspector-General of Police Ishyaku Mohammed to oversee security operations.

A total of 25,310 security personnel have been deployed, comprising 15,000 from the Nigeria Police Force, 10,210 from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and about 100 officers from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). These personnel will cover the state's 30 local government areas, focusing on polling units, registration area centres, and collation centres.

The NSCDC's deployment includes over 10,000 personnel from 10 neighbouring states. The EFCC's role is to monitor and address vote buying and financial crimes.

The heightened security aims to prevent violence and ensure a credible electoral process, with military presence particularly noted at the Independent National Electoral Commission headquarters.
