Amnesty International Targets Fadahunsi Over Violent Rhetoric

Amnesty International Nigeria has announced its intention to use Senator Francis Fadahunsi as an example in its campaign against impunity and inflammatory political rhetoric ahead of the Osun State governorship election scheduled for Saturday. Fadahunsi, who represents the Osun East Senatorial District, faced scrutiny after a viral campaign video reportedly showed him instructing supporters to “kill” members of the Accord Party, the party of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.

In response, Fadahunsi denied advocating for violence, stating that his comments were meant to encourage supporters to defeat the Accord Party through voting. Isa Sanusi, the Country Director of Amnesty International Nigeria, condemned Fadahunsi's remarks, asserting that such advocacy of hatred is a crime under both international and Nigerian law.

Sanusi indicated that Amnesty would extend its campaign internationally to name and shame politicians promoting electoral violence. Fadahunsi was questioned by the Osun State Police Command in Osogbo regarding the video and maintained that his statements had been misconstrued.
