Amnesty International petitions against Senator Fadahunsi

Amnesty International Nigeria has launched an online petition calling for action against Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, over comments interpreted as inciting violence ahead of the Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15. The organization made this announcement on its official X account, emphasizing the need for justice and the protection of the electoral rights of Osun residents.

Fadahunsi was recorded in a video addressing supporters in Ilesa, where his remarks were perceived as a threat against the Accord Party. He later clarified that his comments were metaphorical, urging supporters to defeat the Accord Party with votes rather than violence.

Following the backlash, the Osun State Police Command invited Fadahunsi to clarify his statements, describing them as potentially threatening. He complied with the invitation on August 11, undergoing questioning for over two hours.

The police stated that the invitation was a proactive measure to mitigate political tension before the election.
