Police Enhance Security for Osun State Governorship Election

Ahead of the governorship election in Osun State scheduled for Saturday, the Nigeria Police Force has assured residents of adequate security. The Force Public Relations Officer, Okokon Iniedu, announced the deployment of helicopters, drones, and Mobile Police personnel during a briefing at the Osun State Police Command headquarters in Osogbo.

Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, directed the police to ensure a safe, peaceful, and credible election while protecting lives and property. Iniedu emphasized that vote-buying would not be tolerated, stating that those caught would be arrested and prosecuted.

Security arrangements include aerial surveillance and personnel stationed at polling units, INEC offices, and strategic locations. Four unarmed security personnel will be stationed at each of the over 3,700 polling units.

The police have conducted security threat assessments across all 30 local government areas and will deploy covert operatives to gather intelligence and respond to emerging threats.
