15,000 Police Personnel Deployed for Osun Election

Samuel Erale Etaifo, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Osun state governorship election, disclosed that 15,000 police personnel have been deployed for the gubernatorial poll scheduled for August 15. This deployment follows incidents of tension and violence in Osun, which have resulted in attacks and killings.

During a meeting with the deployed officers at the Police Officers Mess in Osogbo, Etaifo warned against any actions that could compromise the integrity of the election. He stated that anyone undermining a free and fair election, including police officers and political actors, would face legal consequences.

Violators would be taken directly to Abuja, as the election is classified as a federal government election. The 15,000 personnel include conventional officers, specialists, and units such as medical personnel and the dog section.

Etaifo, appointed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for this role, noted he arrived earlier than planned due to the heightened tensions.
