Afenifere Praises Credibility of Osun Governorship Election

Afenifere, the Pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, described the recently concluded Osun State governorship election as a credible democratic exercise that reflects the people's will. In a statement from its Secretary-General, Sola Ebiseni, the group commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its conduct, which received praise from various political divides across the country.

Ebiseni noted the significant voter turnout, surpassing one million, and highlighted the electorate's determination to ensure their votes counted. Afenifere expressed pride in the Yoruba people's tradition of defending their political rights.

The organization stated that the election passed the test of being free, fair, and credible, while also cautioning that Nigeria must strive for a more reliable electoral process as attention turns to the 2027 general elections. Additionally, Afenifere congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election, indicating that expectations would be higher for his administration.
