Increased Security and Visitors Ahead of Osun Election

In anticipation of the governorship election scheduled for Saturday in Osun State, the state capital, Osogbo, has experienced a substantial influx of visitors and strangers from various regions of Nigeria. Many of these individuals had previously come to the state during the Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) registration exercise and have returned to participate in the upcoming poll.

This surge in visitors has led to hotels in Osogbo being fully booked weeks prior to the election, causing difficulties for arriving journalists and observers in securing accommodation. Additionally, security has been significantly heightened throughout the state, with heavy security cordons established at strategic locations.

Soldiers have been stationed at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters, and mobile patrols are actively moving across the state to ensure law and order during the election period.
