Osun State Offers Free Artificial Limbs to 1,000 Amputees

The Osun State Government, led by Governor Ademola Adeleke, has announced a humanitarian program to provide free artificial limbs to 1,000 amputees within the state. This initiative was disclosed in a statement by Kamil Aransi, the Special Adviser on Special Needs to the Governor, on Friday.

The program aims to restore mobility and dignity to beneficiaries and is part of a broader agenda to strengthen support systems for persons living with disabilities. Governor Adeleke is noted as the first governor in the state's history to offer free artificial limbs to amputees.

This initiative aligns with the Osun State Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities Prohibition Law, signed on June 10, 2024, which guarantees rights and benefits for persons with disabilities, including access to free health insurance. The first phase of the program includes a medical assessment camp scheduled from May 7 to May 9, 2026, where beneficiaries will receive evaluations to determine the most suitable prosthetic limbs.
