Osun Government Warns Police Against Political Pressure

The Osun State Government issued a warning to the state police to resist political pressure concerning a suspect linked to banditry in the Lameco area. This caution followed allegations from civil society organizations that a prominent member of the Progress Congress was attempting to influence the police to release the suspect on psychiatric grounds.

The government emphasized that such actions could undermine efforts to dismantle criminal gangs. The police confirmed that the suspect was undergoing psychiatric evaluation and had been treated by a herbalist for mental illness over the past ten years.

However, the police did not address the allegations regarding the involvement of the APC leader in the suspect's potential release. The Osun State Government, represented by Commissioner Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, urged the police to provide clarity on several issues surrounding the case and warned against any actions that could embolden criminal elements during this sensitive period for state security.
