Otti Approves Feasibility Study for Abia Seaport Project

Abia State Governor Alex Otti approved the commencement of a feasibility study for the proposed Azumini Obeaku seaport and inland waterway corridor project. This decision was made during a meeting with a delegation from China Harbour Engineering Company Limited, led by Nicola Liu, on Tuesday.

Otti directed the company to complete the study within the shortest possible time, rejecting the initial timeline of six to seven months. He emphasized the importance of expediting the process to facilitate regulatory approvals from the Nigerian Port Authority and the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.

The feasibility study will assess the project's viability, particularly concerning the proposed site, which is located 19 nautical miles from the high sea and will require significant dredging, potentially impacting costs. Otti noted the company's extensive experience in infrastructure development in Nigeria, including involvement in the Lekki Deep Sea Port project.

Key government officials, including the Principal Secretary and members of the State Executive Council, attended the meeting.
