Over 800 Beggars Evacuated in Abuja Sweep Operation

The FCT Administration, under the leadership of Mr. Ukachi Adebayo, has successfully evacuated over 800 street beggars from various locations in Abuja.

This operation, which is part of a relaunch of the "Sweep Abuja" initiative, was first launched in 2025 by the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The aim of the operation is to rehabilitate and reintegrate these individuals into society rather than abandoning them.

Adebayo acknowledged the significant operational challenges faced during the exercise, particularly during visits to unauthorized settlements in areas like Apo and Wasa. Community Chairman Garzali Umar expressed support for the operation, highlighting concerns about suspicious movements and the presence of criminal elements in transient occupation areas.
