Senate Approves N50m for Families of Slain Teachers, Soldiers

On Wednesday, the Nigerian Senate approved a donation of N50 million to the families of five individuals who lost their lives during a rescue operation aimed at freeing abducted pupils and teachers in Oriir Local Government Area, Oyo State. Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced that each bereaved family would receive N10 million.

The Senate commended the Nigerian Armed Forces and security agencies for successfully rescuing the abducted individuals after 56 days in captivity. The motion for the donation was moved by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, who highlighted the national shock following the May 15 abduction incident.

The Senate reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing security measures across the country and providing welfare support for security personnel involved in high-risk operations. A minute of silence was observed in honor of the slain soldiers and teachers during the session.
