Oyo State Announces School Resumption Date After Strike

The Oyo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has announced an adjustment to the academic calendar for public primary and secondary schools, confirming a resumption date of July 6, 2026. This change follows a month-long strike by the Nigeria Union of Teachers, which had closed schools since June 1, 2026.

The revised academic term will run for six weeks, concluding on August 14, 2026. A circular signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr.

B.T. Oyinloy, indicates that students and teachers will have a four-week break starting from August 17, 2026, to September 11, 2026.

The updated schedule also provides the commencement date for the next academic year, with the first term for 2026-2027 beginning on September 14, 2026. This adjustment is part of the Ministry's efforts to update the academic calendar in light of recent disruptions, including incidents of violence in the Oriir Local Government Area.
