Oyo NUT Strike Causes Concern Among Parents and Pupils

The Nigeria Union of Teachers in Oyo State commenced an indefinite strike on June 1, leading to the closure of public primary and secondary schools. This situation has left many pupils idle, prompting concerns from parents and educational stakeholders regarding the negative influence on children's academic activities.

Mr. Yemisi Alao, a teacher, criticized parents for their nonchalant attitude towards their children's future during the strike, expressing that many children are left unattended as parents go to work.

Parents like Mr. Godwin Obinna reported that children are roaming the streets and engaging in unproductive activities.

Other parents, including Mr. Bolajoko Yusuf and Mr.

Adeola Aina, have taken community approaches to supervise children during the strike. The strike has particularly affected younger children, with many engaging in leisure activities instead of learning.

Parents are urging the state government to intensify efforts to resolve the issues leading to the strike and to enhance security measures in schools.
