Oyo State Approves N8.7bn for Educational Materials

The Oyo State Government has called on teachers to return to classes and has approved N8.7 billion for the procurement of learning materials. This decision was made during a State Executive Council meeting held on Tuesday, as stated by Commissioner Dotun Oyelad.

The government urged the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) to reconsider their withdrawal of students from public schools, emphasizing the broader consequences of prolonged academic disruptions. The NUT's actions were prompted by security concerns following recent kidnappings in the Oriire Local Government Area.

The government reassured residents of ongoing efforts to resolve these security issues. The approved N8.7 billion is part of a larger project estimated at N23.01 billion, aimed at procuring textbooks for primary and junior secondary schools, with funding support from the World Bank and UBEC.

Additionally, the council approved a budget realignment for the 2026 fiscal year to ensure the completion of ongoing projects.
