Oyo State Adopts Federal Government's Proof of Address Initiative for Enhanced Governance

Oyo State in Nigeria has formally adopted the full implementation of the Proof of Address (PoA) initiative introduced by the Federal Government. The PoA initiative aims to establish a data-driven identification system and proper documentation for residents and businesses, replacing Nigeria's reliance on non-standard address description tools.

The Oyo State Government has set March 1, 2026, as the official rollout date for the PoA initiative across its ministries, departments, agencies, and 33 local government areas. The state government, in collaboration with the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Oyo State chapter, recently conducted a sensitization program to prepare for the initiative's rollout.

The PoA system is expected to enhance security, improve individual identification within communities, and promote transparency in accessing government services. Key officials involved in the initiative include Professor Musibau Babatunde Adetunji, the Secretary to the Government of Oyo State, and Abiodun Muhammed Fadeyi, the Deputy Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly.
