Nigerian Government Launches LG Proof of Address Project for Citizen Identification

The Nigerian Government has initiated the LG Proof of Address (POA) project to strengthen national security, improve citizen identification, and enhance service delivery. The project, associated with ALGON, aims to replace outdated utility bills with a standard proof of address issued at the local government level.

This initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu's governance reform agenda and addresses challenges in relying on utility bills for proof of residence. The POA scheme, effective from October 1, 2025, seeks to provide accurate address information linked directly to local governments for grassroots verification.
