Oyo Launches 2026 HIV Surveillance Survey for Better Care

The Oyo State Agency for the Control of AIDS (OYSACA) has initiated the 2026 Integrated Biological and Behavioural Surveillance Survey (IBBSS) to enhance HIV prevention, treatment, and care in Oyo State. OYSACA Chairman, Aare (Dr) Gbola Adetunji, stated that the survey will collect biological and behavioural data from key populations, including female sex workers, men who have sex with men, and people who inject drugs.

This initiative, in collaboration with the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) and the West Africa Centre for Public Health and Development (WACPHD), aims to provide updated evidence on HIV prevalence, risk behaviours, and access to services. The survey will involve about 40 trained field personnel and is expected to run through September and October 2026, followed by analysis and report writing.

Adetunji emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders and the need for ethical conduct during the survey. The findings will inform better policies and improve access to HIV-related services in Oyo State and Nigeria.
