Oyo Governor Makinde Temporarily Hands Over to Deputy

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has been granted approval by the Oyo State House of Assembly to proceed on annual leave, which will commence on August 10 and conclude on September 11, 2026. During this period, Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal will assume the role of Acting Governor, managing the day-to-day administration of the state to ensure continuity in government operations.

The approval was given during a plenary session on Thursday, where Deputy Speaker Muhammed Fadeyi, presiding in place of Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin, read the governor's formal letter to the assembly. The lawmakers expressed confidence in Lawal's leadership capabilities and commended Makinde for adhering to constitutional requirements by notifying the legislature prior to his leave.

The House also directed that the approval be formally communicated to the executive arm for necessary actions.
