Oyo State Pledges Support for Rescued Kidnapped Victims

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde announced that the state government will take full responsibility for the welfare of the pupils and teachers rescued after being held captive for 56 days. During a formal handover ceremony, he pledged comprehensive medical, psychological, and educational support until their full recovery.

The governor emphasized the importance of ensuring that the traumatic experience does not derail the educational careers of the affected pupils and teachers. He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian security agencies for their coordinated efforts that led to the successful rescue operation.

The incident, which occurred on May 15, 2026, involved armed bandits invading three schools in Oriire Local Government Area, resulting in the abduction of numerous pupils and teachers, including the murder of mathematics teacher Michael Oyedokun. Rachael Alamu, the principal of the affected school, recounted the harrowing experience endured by the victims during their captivity.
