Oyo State Honors Heroes of Oriire Rescue Operation

The Oyo State Government paid tribute to the fallen heroes of the Oriire rescue operation, which aimed to recover abducted pupils and teachers. Governor Seyi Makinde expressed sorrow over the loss of lives during the operation and extended condolences to the bereaved families.

The operation, which took place in Oriire Local Government Area, resulted in the deaths of several civilian security personnel, including Mr. Michael Oyedokun, Deacon John Olaley, Mr.

Joel Adesiyan, and Mr. Oluwasegun Akanni, among others.

The attack occurred on May 15, 2026, when armed men targeted three schools in the Ahoro, Esin, and Yawota communities, leading to the abduction of teachers and pupils. The victims were held captive for approximately 57 days before being rescued.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the families of the fallen heroes and ensuring their sacrifices are not forgotten.
