Oyo Government Launches Inquiry into School Abduction

The Oyo State Government has formed a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the abduction of pupils and teachers from the Esinele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area. This decision, announced by Commissioner for Information Prince Dotun Oyelade, aims to establish the circumstances surrounding the kidnapping that occurred on May 15, 2026, and to recommend measures to prevent future incidents.

The commission will be inaugurated on Friday at the Executive Council Chamber of the Governor’s Office in Ibadan. Governor Seyi Makinde had previously promised an independent inquiry following the victims' release, emphasizing transparency and accountability.

The commission is tasked with examining the events leading to the kidnapping, identifying security lapses, and suggesting improvements for school and community safety. The abduction, which lasted 56 days, raised national concern, prompting calls for enhanced security measures around schools, particularly in rural areas.
