Six Children Die in Captivity; 17 Rescued in Oyo

The Oyo Police Command reported that six children died in captivity due to a suspected child-stealing and human trafficking syndicate, while 17 others were rescued. Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Abimbola announced this during a press conference in Ibadan.

The syndicate, allegedly led by 50-year-old herbal trader Adegoke Popoola, operated across Oyo and other states. The deceased children were identified as Musharaf Lawal Tajudeen (2), Greatness Adeagbo (5), Sainat Amoo (2), Taiwo Usman (2), Daniel Solomon Olayinka (7), and Miracle Olaniyi (4).

The rescued children included Ifakunle Ifagbenro (3) and several others aged between two and seven. The investigation began after a petition dated July 29, 2026, was submitted by Popoola, alleging various offenses.

However, it was later discovered that she was linked to the disappearance of Ifakunle Ifagbenro during a masquerade festival. Popoola was arrested on August 4 and allegedly confessed to stealing more than 15 children from various public events.
