Oyo State Suspends School Activities Over Insecurity

The Oyo State government has announced the immediate suspension of all school excursions, inter-school activities, and sports competitions that require students to leave school premises. This decision, communicated through a circular signed by Mr.

B.T. Oyinloy, the Permanent Secretary of the Oyo State Ministry of Education, comes in response to heightened security fears following a deadly coordinated kidnapping attack in Oriire Local Government Area, where several students and teachers were abducted.

The circular, dated May 22, 2026, overrides any previous approvals for such activities. The Ministry emphasized that the safety of children is non-negotiable and urged school administrations to keep students within school premises during school hours.

Additionally, school authorities were instructed to report any suspicious activities around school premises to law enforcement agencies. The government's action reflects growing anxiety among parents regarding the safety of students and teachers in Oyo State.
