Oyo State Lifts Curfew Amid Ongoing Security Operations

The Oyo State Government has lifted the dusk-to-dawn curfew that was imposed on ten local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park. This decision was announced by Governor Seyi Makinde through a statement issued on Saturday, October 14, 2023, by Dotun Oyelad.

The curfew was initially implemented for 48 hours starting June 24, 2023, from 4 PM to 8 AM, in response to a kidnapping incident on May 15, where armed men abducted several pupils and teachers in the Oriir Local Government Area. The government has assured residents that security agencies will continue operations to combat kidnapping and ensure the safety of the community.

The Oyo State Government is collaborating with military and police forces, as well as the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and Amotekun Corps, to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and restore security in the affected areas.
