DLA Substitutes Presidential Candidate Ahead of 2027 Elections

On August 24, 2026, it was reported that two days after the official commencement of the electioneering for the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly polls on August 19, 2026, the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) substituted its presidential candidate. The DLA, registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on February 5, 2026, in Lagos State, confirmed Mr. Moses Adebisi as its presidential candidate, replacing Mr. Samuel M.

Memeh, the National Chairman of the party. This substitution was conducted in accordance with Section 29 of the Electoral Act, 2026, which allows for candidate changes only in cases of death or withdrawal.

The substitution primary took place at the DLA's state secretariat in Surulere, Lagos, following INEC's directive. Mr. Richard Benson, the Lagos State DLA Chairman, stated that the decision was driven by the need for ethical, competent, and inclusive leadership in Nigeria.

Adebisi's affirmation was described as a political awakening for the DLA, aiming to reposition the party ahead of the January 16, 2027 elections.
