Primaries Set for New Delta, Kogi Constituencies in 2026

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that political parties will conduct primaries for four newly restored State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi States between August 21 and 25, 2026. This decision follows a court judgment that mandated the restoration of previously suppressed constituencies.

The constituencies involved are Abraka, Isoko North II, and Ughelli South II in Delta State, along with Yagba West II in Kogi State. Mohammed Haruna, the National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC's Information and Voter Education Committee, disclosed this information in a statement on Friday.

The primaries for these new constituencies will coincide with party primaries for bye-elections in several other constituencies across Nigeria, including Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State, Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies in Bauchi State, Udu State Constituency in Delta State, and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano State. INEC urged political parties to submit notices of their primaries ahead of the scheduled dates.
