Passenger dies after jumping from bus in Lagos crash

A tragic incident occurred in Lagos State when a male passenger died after jumping from a moving Volkswagen commercial bus, which subsequently crashed into a median pole at Ogunlana Junction, inward Ojuelegba. The accident took place along the Ojuelegba axis of Surulere.

Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), reported that the driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and driving recklessly prior to the crash. As the bus was driven erratically, motorists approaching from behind attempted to avoid a collision.

In a bid to escape the uncontrolled vehicle, the male passenger jumped out and sustained severe injuries upon impact with the ground, ultimately succumbing to those injuries. LASTMA personnel responded swiftly to the scene, securing it and implementing emergency traffic-management measures.

The Area C Police Division provided security, while the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency evacuated the deceased. Taofiq emphasized the dangers of alcohol-influenced driving and urged motorists to ensure their vehicles are in good condition.
