PDP Crisis Seen as Strategy to Weaken Opposition
• Punch Newspapers • Politics
Olawepo-Hashim has stated that the ongoing crisis within the People's Democratic Party (PDP) is a deliberate strategy aimed at weakening the opposition in Nigeria. He noted that the situation worsened when a faction led by Nyesom Wike began to push its own agenda. Despite efforts to engage stakeholders and find common ground, it became evident that the factions could not reach a consensus on party structure and leadership positions. Although preliminary agreements were made to harmonize structures and share responsibilities, the broader political objectives of the factions seemed to extend beyond internal reconciliation. Olawepo-Hashim pointed out that the PDP's internal disagreements reflect a larger trend among opposition parties in Nigeria, raising concerns about political stability. He emphasized the importance of a robust opposition and transparent governance to foster a healthy democratic environment, warning that the lack of clarity in legislative processes undermines public trust and investor confidence.
