Iyabo Obasanjo Claims PDP Lacks Presidential Candidate

Former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has no presidential candidate for the 2027 election, distancing herself from the party’s national campaign. Obasanjo, the daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the PDP’s senatorial candidate for Ogun Central, made these remarks during an interview.

Despite the PDP announcing Senator Sandy Onor as its consensus presidential candidate in May, Obasanjo claimed she was unaware of him and had no reason to campaign for someone she did not know. She emphasized that her campaign focus is solely on Ogun State, stating that the existence of a presidential candidate is not important to her local campaign.

Obasanjo also mentioned that she had not received any communication from the PDP's national leadership regarding campaign visits to Ogun State. Recently, she returned to the PDP after resigning from the APC in May, where she lost the governorship ticket in Ogun State, and was subsequently awarded the PDP ticket for the Ogun Central Senatorial District.
