PDP to Conduct New Gombe Governorship Primary on Sept 29

The Nyesom Wike-backed faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State has announced that a court-ordered fresh governorship primary election will take place on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. This decision follows a ruling by the Federal High Court in Gombe that nullified the previous primary which had selected Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami as the party's candidate for the 2027 general elections.

Abdulkadir Ahmed Dukku, the party’s State Publicity Secretary, confirmed that Pantami, Usman Aliyu Garry, and Khamisu Ahmed Mailantarki are the three aspirants cleared to participate. Dukku emphasized that the party would comply with the court's directive.

However, Garry has opposed Pantami's participation, arguing that Pantami's name was not included in the list of aspirants submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on May 10, as he joined the PDP later on May 19. Garry and other aspirants have urged the PDP leadership and INEC to prevent Pantami from contesting in the fresh primary.
