Pelican Stars' NWFL Promotion Attributed to First Lady's Support

Pelican Stars' chairman, Aribiah, credited the club's promotion to the elite division of Nigerian women's football to the significant support from Cross River's First Lady, Mrs. Otu.

In an interview in Calabar, Aribiah highlighted Mrs. Otu's commitment to player welfare, which included monthly provisions of food items such as a bag of rice for each player.

Additionally, Governor Bassey Otu played a crucial role by tripling the team's monthly subvention from ₦5 million to ₦15 million shortly after taking office, ensuring that all outstanding salaries and allowances were cleared. This combination of financial and moral support led to swift results, with Pelican Stars returning to the topmost female football league in Nigeria just six months after Aribiah took over as chairman.

Aribiah expressed excitement over the team's achievements and emphasized the First Lady's motherly role in supporting the players.
