IG Disu Calls for Trust Between Police and Citizens

On Tuesday, during a strategic stakeholder engagement in Awka, Anambra State, Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu urged for an end to the deep-seated mutual suspicion between law enforcement and citizens. He emphasized that genuine trust is essential for sustainable security achievements.

Disu's call was supported by Deputy Inspector General of Police Kenechukwu Onwuemeli, who highlighted the importance of collaboration among critical stakeholders to promote peace and public safety. The engagement aimed to identify practical solutions to security challenges across the country, with a focus on enhancing intelligence sharing and community participation in security responses.

Onwuemeli stressed the need for communities to work closely with security agencies and traditional institutions to combat crime effectively. He also noted that crime thrives in environments where community silence prevails.

The meeting included discussions on the challenges posed by violent crime, including armed robbery and kidnapping, and the necessity for mutual trust between the police and the public to facilitate effective communication and collaboration.
