Peter Obi Advocates Fuel Subsidy Removal for Nigeria

Peter Obi, the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and former Governor of Anambra State, declared that the fuel subsidy system in Nigeria is plagued by corruption. He expressed his belief that removing the subsidy could yield significant benefits for Nigerians if managed transparently.

Obi made these statements on his 𝕏 account following his participation as a panelist during the 66th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on Monday at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He advocated for the transparent investment of savings from subsidy removal into defined development priorities, including agriculture, healthcare, education, poverty reduction, and security.

Obi reiterated his commitment to eliminating corruption in the subsidy system and emphasized that Nigeria has the resources to prosper, asserting that poverty and hunger are results of years of mismanagement by leaders. He called for leadership that prioritizes the common good over personal interests.
