Peter Obi Calls for Release of Academic Records

Peter Obi, the 2027 presidential candidate of the New Democratic Congress (NDC), has directed the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), to release his academic records to anyone who makes a legitimate request. This statement was published on his X account on July 22, following reports of a legal action seeking Certified True Copies (CTCs) of his university degree and other admission documents.

Obi stated he has no objection to the release of his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy, awarded to him by UNN in 1984, and any other records related to his admission and time at the institution. He urged UNN to make his certificates available within legal limits and extended this request to other institutions he attended.

Obi emphasized the importance of transparency and integrity in governance, challenging other presidential aspirants to adopt similar openness regarding their qualifications. He was ratified as the NDC's presidential candidate on May 29, 2026, after resigning from the African Democratic Congress on May 2, 2026.
