UNN Confirms Peter Obi's Legitimate Degree Certificate

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) verified that Gregory Peter Onwubuasi Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), was legitimately admitted to study Philosophy on September 3, 1980, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree on December 15, 1984, with Second Class Honours (Lower Division). Critics, including Abayomi Arabambi, national vice chairman (South-West) of a Labour Party faction, questioned the authenticity of Obi's academic records, alleging he lacked the necessary credits in English Language and Mathematics for admission.

Arabambi displayed copies of Obi's WAEC certificate, which showed a Grade 8 in English Language and Mathematics. However, UNN clarified that Obi combined his June 1978 result with a November/December 1978 GCE result to meet the O'Level requirements.

Despite the authentication, UNN's registrar's office did not provide supporting documents, and Chief Registrar Ngozi Nnebedum failed to respond adequately to inquiries about the missing annexures. Obi welcomed scrutiny of his credentials and challenged other presidential candidates to disclose their qualifications.
