ADC Chieftain: Peter Obi Hinders Igbo Presidential Aspirations

Hon. Kasimu Maigari, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and part of the National Legislative Forum, asserted that former presidential candidate Peter Obi has hindered the progress of the Igbo people in their pursuit of the presidency by 20 years.

Maigari made these remarks during an interview, addressing recent political developments, including Obi's defection from the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) alongside former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso. He argued that Obi's political movement does not advance the South East's longstanding aspirations to produce the next Nigerian president and instead pushes them backward.

Maigari contended that Obi's support primarily serves his interests in securing electoral positions, such as a state assembly seat or a governorship ticket, rather than benefiting the broader Igbo community. He emphasized that the ADC remains united in strategizing for the 2027 elections, suggesting that Obi's influence in certain parts of the country indirectly benefits the ruling party led by President Bola Tinubu.
