Aisha Yesufu Defends Peter Obi's Campaign Access in Benue

Aisha Yesufu, a human rights activist and member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, condemned the blockade that prevented Peter Obi from entering the Yelwata Internally Displaced Persons camp in Benue State. Yesufu asserted that no individual or group has the authority to dictate where political candidates can campaign in Nigeria.

The incident occurred on a Tuesday when suspected thugs allegedly obstructed a major road as Obi arrived in the state. Following the blockade, Obi expressed his concerns regarding the current state of Nigerian politics, clarifying that his visit was humanitarian rather than campaign-focused.

Yesufu stated, “How dare anybody stop anyone from moving to any part of the country to campaign?” She referenced the Independent National Electoral Commission's declaration that campaigning had commenced, questioning how anyone could impede another's activities.
