Peter Obi Criticizes ECOWAS Over Guinea-Bissau Coup Response

Peter Obi, a presidential candidate for the 2023 elections in Nigeria, criticized the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for applying double standards in its response to the recent coup in Guinea-Bissau. Obi slammed ECOWAS for swiftly condemning military takeovers while remaining silent on disruptions to the electoral process caused by technological glitches.

He made these remarks upon his arrival in Abuja after attending a meeting with the European Parliament. Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, who is monitoring the situation in Guinea-Bissau, noted the suspicious nature of the coup announcement.

Obi argued that both military takeovers and technological disruptions undermine democratic processes.
