Peter Obi Calls for Transparency in Candidate Credentials

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and a presidential candidate, made an appeal to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday, urging them to publish the academic certificates and credentials of all candidates seeking public office in Nigeria. Obi's request aims to significantly improve transparency, promote accountability, and strengthen public confidence in the electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He emphasized that Nigerians have the right to know the qualifications of those aspiring to occupy public office. Obi pointed out that the INEC nomination form includes questions about candidates' past conduct, including whether they have ever presented forged certificates.

He argued that making candidates' academic qualifications publicly available would enable independent verification and discourage the submission of false information. Obi expressed concern over the worsening security and economic situation in Nigeria, questioning whether current leaders genuinely act in the best interest of the citizens.

He insisted that rebuilding confidence in Nigeria's democratic institutions requires transparency and accountability.
